A delicious, thirst quenching pale amber ale from Suffolk
A deliciously thirst quenching pale amber ale from one of Suffolk’s leading breweries. The more tradionally flavoured of Adnams’ two low alcohol ales, Sole Star is the go-to beer for those not so enamoured of the distinctive citrus edge of Adnam’s hugely popular Ghost Ship. Sole Star has previously been released in two slightly stronger versions (I first tasted it when it was 1.2%ABV) but this evolution seems to have lost nothing whatsover in terms of flavour by bringing the alcohol down to the market standard 0.5% ABV. An attractive red-amber colour, a fruitily floral nose that smacks gently of the tap-room, and an appealing creamy pour – a first sip reveals a proper beer with real body and depth of flavour. The creamy mouthfeel has a subtle of balance malty caramel basenotes and a hoppy bite that brings sharpness to the palate and a bitter, thirst-quenching crispness in the throat. It might not have all the showy and whistles of its ghostly sister beer, but for those whose tastes run more to the traditional this will definitely do the trick.
