This started life as Budweiser Prohibition Brew, which was launched in 2017, this in turn developed from a recipe and process actually dating back to prohibition America, when alcohol was banned. It was reformulated and relaunched in 2020 and the new version has less than half of the calories of Prohibition with a very slim 46 calories per 330ml can. It’s pitched, according to a Budweiser partner, ambitiously at the athlete, giving them a beery flavour without impacting on performance the following day. It also boasts zero sugar, though the taste is actually quite sweet.
The alcohol is removed by heating the beer in a vacuum and it also uses a brewing process that stops all of the malt fermenting. The taste is fresh. It’s not a strong taste or particularly distinctive but it is refreshing, with a malty flavour and smell. It’s pleasant, but not earth shattering, a little bland. Enjoyably light and inoffensive.
