This is just a really great wine – especially if you prefer red wines and like fizz.  It is packed with flavours of plums and red berries and balanced by a rich palette of tannins.  Salamino is one of the two best Lambrusco denominations (the other being Grasparossa di Castelvetro), each producing full bodied, well balanced, tannin rich wines.  So whilst the label tells us that this wine is “amabile” which can translate as sweet, for this Lambrusco that label is deeply misleading – this wine is essentially dry.   I wholeheartedly recommend is as an exciting wine to quaff or to drink with a meal.

Makers Notes

Traditional red wine vinification, with maceration of the must on the leaves in order to extract colour and tannins.  Fermentation and foam intake in steel pressure-tanks at controlled temperature, following the Charmant method. The Lambrusco Salamino di Santa Croce shows a rich ruby red colour with intense violet hints and foam of the same colour, lively and evanescent.  The bouquet is fresh, fruity, persistent and clearly vinous, and clearly recalls ripe fruit notes to mind.  In the mouth is smooth, well balanced, slightly acidic and fresh, sapid and medium-bodied, with moderate alcohol content.  Pleasant and easy to drink wine, appreciated by the more delicate palates, perfect with dishes of the local tradition, such as pasta with meat sauce, tortellini and roast. The medium-sweet version fits to dessert and in particular to dry pastry.
