Zestily zingy pink grapefruit
The first thing to say about Citizen Spritz is that their bottles look enchantingly pretty, with their frosted coral pink colour and heavy glass base; they should definitely be kept out to add colour and grace to a room (I’m imagining them on a duck egg-blue shelf). Twisting the cap releases an intense aroma of tart zest and grapefruit juice, with the sharpness of the juice softened and mellowed out by something rounder – a glance at the ingredient list suggests it might be the grape juice. While many non-alc drinks rely on the addition of tonic to give flavour and depth, this works as a aperitif with just sparkling water. The drink is sharp, refreshing, aromatic and fabulously summery. It’s intensely flavoured, a bit like a very superior San Pellegrino. Sipping this in a hammock under the apple trees is summer in a glass.
