A perfect fiery blend
Oh, but Crossip really know what they’re doing. They understand that when we choose a non-alcoholic spirit, it’s not just flavour we’re after; it’s also the impact of alcohol on the mouth, that fiery feel known officially as a trigeminal sensation that the ethanol in alcohol delivers. A watery mix of botanicals just doesn’t replicate it. Crossip do flavour superbly, but they also deliver on mouth-tingling impact, blending cayenne and ginger to add kick to the drink, and adding glycerine to give a silky fullness to the mouthfeel. But let’s not ignore the flavour: there’s top notes of citrus, mandarin and grapefruit sitting tangily on top of the ginger which in turn yields to a long cayenne finish, rising through the other tastes but not entirely overwhelming them. And somewhere in the background, just adding a little astringency, there’s the herbal notes of eucalyptus. I salute the blenders at Crossip; this is a very fine drink.
