A solid French quaffer from Aldi

A surprisingly solid own brand 0% “premium lager”, brewed in France for Aldi. It’s unlikely to win any prizes for amazing or unusual flavour, but then, it’s not trying to. The pour is what you’d hope for – lively, foaming with a nice white head, the merest hint of lemon on the nose. In the mouth it has a nice refreshing zest, with the subtle lemon coming through again over a faintly caramel, slightly sweet base note – nothing very strong and certainly not unpleasant. In other words, lots of French subtlety and restraint. Overall, in terms of delivering on what it claims to be – and at a very reasonable price – it lives up to its promise. If you’re looking for something to quaff away all afternoon at a barbeque, and still be legal for the drive home, this will certainly do the trick.
