Classic Vinho Verde and great VFM
ABV:
Typical Price:
£5.00
All the signs for this wine are poor – it’s Tesco’s own label, it costs £5.25 a bottle and it declines to even say what grapes it’s made from. In other words it’s probably produced from whatever is available and maybe that’s why it’s reviews are change with the seasons – sometimes 5 stars, sometimes one, rarely anything in between.
BUT, the bottle I bought was excellent (at any price). The spritz of fine bubbles gets it off to a fine start, followed by a pear nose, then a dry and rounded body flavoured with fresh green apples and finished with sherbet. It is everything I want from a Vinho Verde and I could drink it all night. Which makes it lucky that it has a lower ABV than most Vinho Verdes and a lower calorie count at just 59 kcal/100 ml.
So I recommend you get a few bottles, and if it disappoints it only cost you a fiver and it’s probably worth trying again in a few months’ time.
