Tangy grape juice
ABV:
Typical Price:
£2.75
It’s always going to be difficult attempting to make a ‘wine’ drink without alcohol because alcohol is what makes it wine. This uses de-alcoholised Sauvignon Blanc, grape juice and adds glycerine to give that mouthfeel of rounded fullness. It’s got a crisp lemony flavour which leans a little way towards the astringent gooseberry tastes of the true Sauvignon, but it’s just not enough. It tastes like grape juice with some citrus flavours added, which effectively is what is it. I wish we could lose the label of low alcohol, because this isn’t low (which, in a wine, to me should mean under 10% ABV) – it’s less than 0.5%. There may be some residual traces of alcohol, but certainly not enough for it ever to have an effect or add any kind of ethanol fieriness to the drink. So, if you want something to have in a wine glass when you’re the designated driver, and you quite like Schloer, this may be the option for you. Personally, I would go for a non-alcoholic gin and tonic instead.
