Deliciously refreshing CBD drink for a relaxed, calm feel
The first thing to say is that this is a delicious, light, refreshing drink. I’m never much of a fan of using mint with other flavours as it can often bully any other ingredients into giving way before its mintiness but it’s mixed in here with a deft and careful hand, so that it balances perfectly with the floral elderflower notes, creating a drink as delicate and summery as a white cotton voile dress. There’s none of the kick that many alcohol substitutes have as they try to replicate the punch of ethanol that is alcohol’s signature. That’s because the makers at Trip are not trying to mimic alcohol; they’re offering an alternative. Their range of drinks contain 15mg CBD (Cannabidiol), a constituent of cannabis which works by interacting with the body’s endocannabinoid system or ECS ( a network of receptors that works to regulate a multitude of functions, including things like pain response, immune response, and even sleep patterns). There is evidence that CBD can promote social engagement and relaxtion while reducing anxiety. It has been declared ‘generally safe, non-toxic and non-addictive’ by the World Health Organisation.
Did it work? I’ve now tried it twice, and both times felt at ease, calm and mildly buoyant. It’s a pleasant feeling, and I can imagine having a can before an evening socialising to get me into a relaxed, expansive mood. Yes, one to keep in the cupboard.
