This Vale dos Pombos (Valley of the Pigeons) Vinho Verde is an established and reliable favourite in the UK, made from a classic blend of Loureiro, Trajadura and Arinto grapes and still very good value at around £6 per bottle.
The wine comes of course with a satisfying fine spritz accompanied by a big and sweet-sour flavours of pear, apples and almonds enlivened with lime and a dry mineral finish. For some it may be a little on the acidic side, in which case you might prefer the Tesco Vinho Verde, but for many this will satisfy entirely. And on a hot day, this is the perfect picnic wine.
The Co-op tells us this is a vegetarian wine but it’s not on the label.
