This is Majestic’s entry level Vinho Verde from the same bottler as their slightly more expensive LB7 offering. I am not very enamoured of either of them. This Varzea is a little more rounded than the LB7 but is still oddly metallic in flavour and rather thin. The maker themselves have nothing to say about the wine, only about its origins (oldest vineyard in the region), and maybe that’s all there is to be enthusiastic about. I think you can do better elsewhere and at much better prices from the supermarkets. And anyway, how do they know it’s the oldest vineyard? Pliny was writing about wine production in the area 2,000 years ago and production o doubt started well before then.
